Beacon
Biotechnology was founded by a team of brilliant scientists and savvy
business professionals with decades of experience in bioscience,
medical, academic and commercial settings.
CEO: Fred T. Mitchell, BSMT
Fred
Mitchell has extensive commercial experience in human and veterinary
diagnostics. He managed a hospital chemistry laboratory then moved to
Bayer Diagnostics where he spent 14 years in progressive roles in
sales, marketing and product management. Next, Mr. Mitchell was
Director of Business Development for Colorado MEDtech, a leading
Boulder, CO medical device engineering firm. Later, he managed the
diagnostic instrumentation and vital signs monitoring products at the
nation’s 3rd largest companion animal
veterinary diagnostics company. Prior to joining Beacon, he managed
BioStar’s enteric rapid test product line for Inverness Medical,
the world’s
largest rapid diagnostic company. As Chief Executive Officer, Fred is
spearheading the commercialization of BrightSPOT™.
CTO: Millard Cull, BS, MBA
Millard Cull
is a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Beacon Biotechnology,
and has over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry. In
addition, Mr. Cull is CEO of Avidity, LLC, a technology company he
co-founded in 1996. He has a BS in Molecular, Cellular and
Developmental Biology from University of Colorado, Boulder, and an MBA
in Finance from the University of Denver. Millard holds several patents
in the field of Directed Molecular Evolution and a patent for the
Replicative DNA Polymerase from Thermus thermophylus. He
co-authored a paper describing the first use of intercalating dyes in a
DNA polymerase assay that served as a forerunner of quantitative PCR
(qPCR). Finally, he is the lead inventor on several recently submitted
patent applications including the Chemiluminescent Nucleic Acid
Proximity Assay (NAPA™).
CFO: Larry Lansing, BS
Larry Lansing
is a co-founder of Beacon Biotechnology, and together with Mr. Cull,
founded Avidity, LLC in 1996. He serves as CFO of both Beacon and
Avidity. He has over 25 years of accounting experience, initially as a
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a focus on taxation and business
consulting. Over the past ten years he has been instrumental in
negotiating license agreements for use of Avidity’s patented AviTag™
technology with nine of ten of the world's largest pharmaceutical
companies.
CSO: Ronald E. Gill, PhD
Chief Science
Officer Dr. Ronald Gill has more than 25 years of biomedical research
experience in both biotechnology and academic environments. He earned
his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Washington and did
post-doctoral work in Biochemistry at Stanford University. His
background helps determine the scientific direction of the company. Dr.
Gill is a Professor in the University of Colorado Denver School of
Medicine and a Member and Senior Scientist with Avidity LLC.
Scientific Advisor: Bruce E. Eaton,
PhD
Dr. Eaton is a
Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry and
Biochemistry at CU Boulder and a member of the Colorado
Initiative in Molecular Biotechnology Task Force (Ph.D. UC Berkeley,
NIH Distinguished Lecture 2008, Sr. Scientific Advisor - SomaLogic
2003-present). He has served in a variety of executive roles since 1992
in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry leading to new
technologies and commercial products. Current research interests funded
in his research group include RNA catalysis, high resolution cellular
imaging, nanotechnology applications in biology and evolution of light
harvesting systems for photochemical water splitting.

Cambier, PhD
Dr. Cambier
is the Ida and Cecil Green Professor and Chairman of the
Department of Immunology at the University of Colorado Denver School of
Medicine and National Jewish Health. He is cited on 52 papers and has
authored or co-authored 5 books related to immunology. He is an
accomplished, frequently invited guest speaker and has participated in
numerous professional boards and committees and on the editorial board
of several professional publications including the Journal of
Clinical Immunology (2003–2007) and Immunological Reviews
(2002–2007).
